Gurjun balsam from Kalimantan and Sumatra's dipterocarp forests is a uniquely Indonesian material, extracted from the resin of Dipterocarpus forest trees. The oil has historically served as an adulterant detector in patchouli oil quality control, but has genuine fragrance and industrial applications in its own right as a woody-resinous base material.

Aroma:Resinous, woody, slightly sweet-balsamic with a clean, dry character. Light and diffusive with some similarity to copaiba. Used as an adulterant detector for certain essential oils — its specific marker compounds are well characterized.
